HAPPY CHILD (with many sorrows)
Story by O'nezer
Episode Three
The service of songs and wake keep was done on a Friday night while family and friends rallied round at Mr Alarape's compound.
Many good words were said by people about his late wife's character and how she could go at any length to help both friends and strangers.
"She's the reason why my son is still in school." A woman had said as she dabbed the tears from her eyes.
The church minister led the closing song and prayed for the family as everyone left the compound still talking about the godly attitude of Mrs Alarape.
It was the following Saturday morning and the burial started at mid day. Everyone was surprise to see the number of people that turned up for the burial just because Mrs Alarape was a woman that was worth celebrating and emulating.
The burial ended and different people made a promise to help the family one way and the other.
"Josh will be placed on scholarship till he leaves primary school." The Headmistress of Bethel School had said.
Mr Alarape couldn't hide his excitement amidst tears, as everyone rallied round to cheer him up.
Days rolled to weeks, weeks to months and months to year.
Josh was doing so fine with his studies and even when Miss Josephine his former class teacher in primary 4 was no longer his teacher, she still took it upon herself to always take Josh home and stick around the family.
Within that same year, it was no surprise that Mr Alarape was the kind of man that his spirituality and interest in church activities wasn't as much as the wife. Even over time, it was more like the wife making him get involved with church and its members.
The visit, care and attention that Mr Alarape was getting from Miss Josephine had grown so much now that Mr Alarape was beginning to consider taking Miss Josephine in as a new wife to help heal emotionally and psychologically.
In one of their conversations one night, Mr Alarape had said to Josephine, "you always remind me of my late wife."
In no time, Mr Alarape made his intentions known and Miss Josephine declined for a while until one evening when she gave him a yes and they started planning on settling down together.
It was a mixed feelings for Josh as he was excited that dad was getting a new wife but he still couldn't get anyone to fill the vacuum of his mom since he had grown so used to his mom.
Miss Josephine wasn't a total stranger to him because she has been his teacher for a long while now before she became the class teacher for his class as well.
Josh was done with primary school and the father would love him school nearby where he could be monitored but Josephine suggested that he should be sent to boarding school which she felt was good for him.
After long deliberation and consideration, Josh wentvto have his common entrance exams done in Robert College in the neighboring town to where Mr Alarape lives.
Robert College was one of the best school around the town. The school runs both day and boarding.
Holiday was finally over and it was time for Josh to resume. He was excited about the fact that he was resuming Junior secondary and also getting to meet new friends.
Mr Alarape and Josephine escorted him down to the school. They made the other enquiries and made payment for the school fees, hostel fees and other fees.
Josh bade them goodbye with tears in eyes. It was an emotional moment as they all went their separate ways that day.
"This is block G your hostel and the bunk close to the wall is yours." the Porter had said.
What Josh set his eyes on immediately he entered left him shocked and confused.
What did Josh see?
Watch out for what next.
