Adebimpe
Episode 1
"Mummy, why are you crying?" Adebimpe who seems to be asleep startled her Mum.
Adebimpe had always watched her Mum cry every night. Little and naive, she pretend to be asleep as she wondered in her little mind why her Mum always cried each night.
Bola, Adebimpe's Mum had been married to Segun for 7years. Their marriage hasn't been a merry one as they always had one issue to fight on like a wrestling ring.
Bola had told the matter to Segun's parents but they only told her he had a hot temper from childhood
"I have warned Segun to have his temperament under check, but he wouldn't listen. Now see what he's doing with his matrimonial home" Segun's dad said
"You both have that in common just that you have yours in proper check, that makes the difference" Segun's Mum retorted as Bola watched the two like two babies arguing over a matter.
"Please help me talk to him. I don't know how much longer I can take this" Bola had said, but it's 4years after that and Bola kept trying to endure because of Adebimpe who she wanted to have a family, but Segun wasn't ready to change. He kept getting more aggressive by the day.
He would hit Bola over any little mishap. It was now more like she was the Church drum that gets beaten at every worship or deep words.
"I don't know why you are so dull" Segun will say and make her feel less like the woman he married several years ago.
Bola had decided not to have another child for Segun, hence her sincere care for Adebimpe. She had miscarried what should have been their second child after an episode of beating from Segun when the pregnancy was about six months old.
Bola was determined not to go back home with Segun after leaving the hospital bed, but Segun pleaded on his knees with tears. He pleaded like he was found guilty of a crime and feared the consequences.
"Please my love, I promise to turn a new leaf. I don't understand what comes on me when I do those things to you" Segun had pleaded and invited friends to plead on his behalf.
Bola agreed to go home with him after much persuasion and Segun kept to his words, but that was for a little time before the started smacking Bola again over every little issue.
Adebimpe always cried when she saw this. She would scream and hold on to her mum, but Segun cared less. He would beat the two till he was content.
Working as a branch manager for his company, Segun was educated enough to be more enlightened about his actions, but he seems to care less "women are not reasonable and they need the beating once in a while to put their sense in place" Segun would say.
Bola was tired, but scared of opting out of the marriage "I'm more concerned about my daughter as I don't have time for her and her father doesn't even give her attention" Bola lamented within.
Adebimpe was growing and she sat for her primary school leaving exams at the age of ten. Bola considered it a great opportunity to have Adebimpe enrolled in the hostel and Segun didn't dispute it.
Adebimpe felt relieved that she would be away from her parents rat and cat fight and she was overjoyed with the idea.
"Now I will have more time for my fashion shop and I could even pass the night there sometimes than in this hell of a house" Bola heaved a sigh of relief.
Adebimpe's joy soon died down when she realized home and hostel was in the same lane with bullies. She was petit and looked smaller than other students which left her at her at their mercy.
They made Adebimpe go through hard chores telling her she is the youngest among them and she ought to do the chores. She had reported to the Matron severally but it only kept getting worse.
