CORPER WALE Episode 5

Story by O'nezer
Episode 5

Joan cried all through the night without a consolation from Wale who kept turning on the bed beside her. It was a long night with no word from the two.

Joan was determined to keep the baby come what may,'even if it means staying back in Abuja to fend for myself till Wale agrees to take me home" Joan had concluded unknown to her what Wale would conclude on.

"See, you have to move out now" Wale said the next morning without even a good morning first. Joan feigned dumb as she couldn't believe her ears
"You heard me right? You can't stay here if you'll be keeping the baby" Wale said more audibly the second time turning away from Joan as he said it, but Joan who felt a volcano erupting within her stood up, giving Wale an hard slap as she rushed to the toilet to cry her eyes out.

The emotional torture Joan received from Wale was more than she could take "I wish he could just beat me up instead of this torture." Joan cried in frustration.

She had to wait on NYSC allowance that month before she could buy herself a satisfying lunch. Wale had stopped all the outings and he refused to stock the house with foodstuffs like he normally do.

Eating outdoor became a lifestyle with Wale "when she's tired she would leave" he had concluded.

Wale watched as Joan packed her boxes to move out "I have found a place for the one month I have left. Thank you Wale" Joan said as she pulled her box behind her and sniffed, collecting her smaller bag from the bed.

Wale heaved a deep sigh as Joan closed the door "finally..." he cried out falling back to his bed.

Joan went away to live with a fellow Corp member for a month before her NYSC year rolled out. Wale and Joan still see each other everyday in the school but they ignored each other like strangers. Staffs of the school knew how close the duo were. They even called Joan 'Mrs Richardson' but no one dared to ask as they always refused to talk about the distance between them with anyone.

Joan's stomach was already protruding during the send forth programme the school organized for them but she could still cover up as it was only a small bump then.

Wale and Joan looked at each other one last time as Wale smiled boarding a bike back to his apartment "she wants to put me in trouble. My parents can fend for it but I'm not interested" Wale mused and the ride back to his apartment seemed to be the best ride since the day he stepped foot in the school.

Joan felt bad about all that happened during her service year. She felt bitter going back home with a rejected pregnancy while her parents plans for her was to further with her Masters degree "I have nowhere to go than home" Joan's mind ran wild as they drove pass the confluence State, heading towards her destination.

Joan's heart beat faster as she alighted from the taxi before her house "I pray only my siblings will be at home" She stirred at the gate of her house.

She could hear the shouts of her cousin and siblings saying "Aunty Joanna is back." They all rushed to embrace her but she held on to her bag trying to use that as a cover for her stomach.

The revealing of her pregnancy was a disappointment to the family "we wish you got married before this" Joan's dad said in a tone of disappointment.

Months rolled by and Joan gave birth to a baby girl with a father who had continued with his perverse lifestyle that was now obvious to his parents who had tried everything to correct him to no avail.

"You shouldn't have allowed him to serve far away from home like that" Wale's mum blamed his dad as the cause of their son new lifestyle.
